Using the Rich Text Editor
Edit playbook sections visually with formatting, tables, images, and a Markdown escape hatch.
Playbook sections are edited with a rich text editor: formatting appears as you type, with a toolbar for headings, lists, links, tables and images — no Markdown knowledge required. Under the surface your content is still stored as Markdown, which keeps PDF exports, drills, version history and diffs working exactly as before.
Editor Modes
When you edit a section you can switch between modes at any time without losing changes:
- Rich text(default) — visual editing with the formatting toolbar. What you see is what readers, PDFs and the print view will show.
- Markdown— the raw source with the classic toolbar and live preview, for precise control or bulk paste. Anything you can do in rich text you can also do here.
- Diff view— inside the rich text editor's toolbar you can switch to a source/diff view comparing your draft against the CrownSync baseline.
The Toolbar
- Undo / redo — full editing history within the session.
- Bold and italic — or use Ctrl+B / Ctrl+I.
- Block type — paragraphs and heading levels.
- Lists — bulleted, numbered, and checklists.
- Links — select text and press Ctrl+K.
- Images — upload screenshots and diagrams (PNG, JPEG, GIF, WebP, up to 5MB; images are resized automatically).
- Tables — insert and edit tables visually.
- Horizontal rule — visual separators between topics.
Action items drive drills
Lines formatted as a bulleted list whose entries begin with a bold label and colon — for example Isolate the host:followed by the instruction — become checklist items when you run a drill. Keep that pattern when editing response steps so your drills stay actionable.
Saving and Publishing
The save workflow is unchanged: Save as Draft keeps your edits private to the editing team, and owners/admins can Publish to make them live for the whole organisation, exports and print. Every save creates a numbered entry in version history with an optional change note, and you can reset a section to the CrownSync baseline at any time.
External Collaborators
External collaborators with editor access get the same rich text editor in their workspace, restricted to their assigned sections. Their saves are drafts — your owners and admins review and publish.
